CONSERVATION

Polar Bear

Polar bears are to be listed as a 'threatened' species by the U.S. government because global warming, pollution and overhunting is putting them at risk. Greenland and Norway have the most polar bears, but almost 5,000 live mainly in Alaska and travel to Canada and Russia.

It is doubtful that this will have any impact on the government's stance on carbon dioxide emissions. Previously, President Bush has argued that restricting the production of carbon dioxide from power-plant and motor vehicle emissions would be bad for business and weaken the U.S. economy.

In ten years time Orangutans will no longer exist in the wild. We are extremely close to completely destroying the forests that are home to what are one of man's closest relatives.

Orangutans are highly intelligent with an ability to reason and think. They share 97% of the same DNA as humans. Indigenous peoples of Indonesia and Malaysia call this ape “Orang Hutan” literally translating into English as “People of the Forest”.
